Abstract
A generalized measure of receiver output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) that includes several conventional measures of SNR as special eases is presented. The potential for anomalous behavior of the new measure when used to predict signal-detection performance is demonstrated through detailed performance analysis of quadratic receivers for incoherent slow- and fast-fading Gaussian channels.
