Abstract
A limited theory is developed for scattering from a stochastic target as a function of incidence angle. Applied to the radar observation of hydrometeors, this theory leads to the consideration of orientation models, resulting in equations for radar response as the elevation of line of sight is increased from horizontal to vertical. The relationships permit an assessment of particle parameters, including raindrop distortion, using existing data and some data not previously reported
