Abstract :
A sub-metre-long optically-gain-clamped all-fibre amplifier based on a highly-doped Er-Yb-doped phosphate glass fibre of <10 cm length is demonstrated. Optical gain clamping by means of a very short laser cavity results in high insensitivity to channel power transients with only 4% extra pump power penalty. Exploiting all-fibre technology, such a device is very promising for WDM metro network applications.
