Abstract
Previously predicted values for the temperature coefficient of delay (TCD) for surface acoustic waves (SAW) in lithium iodate (LiIO3 ) have been found to be in error. TCD has been obtained experimentally for Z-cut LiIO3 and qualitative agreement with theoretical calculations using revised elastic constant data has been obtained. The metallized SAW velocity and a measure of the electromagnetic to acoustic coupling have also been obtained experimentally for Z-cut and are in qualitative agreement with previous calculations. Z-cut is still the most attractive cut with zero power flow angle and coupling more than one and a half times that of LiNbO3 , however its TCD is more than three times that of LiNbO3 .
