Abstract
The proliferation of spyware, adware, offensive Web sites, and spam increasingly drains economic resources, forcing businesses and individuals to spend inordinate amounts of time and money to prevent and remove these items. This article examines some of those claims and suggests a series of steps in the promotion, design, implementation, and operation of Internet safety products that their developers and users can take to reduce the risks these claims pose
