Abstract
Notable developments during 1988 are summarized. Among them are: the choice of an optical-disk drive over the more common magnetic Winchester drive for the NeXT Computer System; the push toward smaller, faster, denser magnetic drives; the possibility of lighter-weight laptop computers suggested by the announcement of a 2 1/2 inch, 20-Mbyte Winchester hard-disk drive; and the continuing trend toward more storage capacity.<>
