Abstract
Asymptotic propagation constants of vector wave modes are given for radially inhomogeneous circular waveguides with a polynomial refractive-index profile. The degeneracy of TE and TM modes, which arises from the vector wave nature of modes, is shown to split due to the inhomogeneity of the local wave admittance.
