Abstract :
A hermetically encapsulated AlGaAs laser diode used as an optical source in a light-wave communication system is described. The laser description includes 1) the mechanical and optical design of the encapsulation; 2) the technique used in assembly of the encapsulation; and 3) a review of the environmental tests that were used to establish the design capability of the completed device.
