Effective medium approach for subwavelength resolution

In a wire medium there can propagate ordinary and extraordinary waves. In a single-wire medium the line source excites two extraordinary modes: TM and TEM fields. In the far-field region one of them is the transmission-line mode, which can be used for transfer of an image to a long distance with a resolution that is determined by the ratio of the operating and the plasma frequency in wire medium. Subwavelength resolution is achieved with sufficiently high plasma frequencies.
