Abstract
This paper describes the design goals and implementation strategy of the Data General Desktop Generation Model 10. It focuses on four key elements of the design: the dual-processor hardware architecture, color graphics implementation, layered software architecture, and modular packaging. The paper first outlines the corporate and market requirements which the designers sought to fulfill, and the alternative approaches considered. The paper also discusses the performance of the final product and its fit with the markets as originally defined.
