Abstract
For original paper see ibid., vol.24, p.2108-11 (1988). The original author discusses the use of Helmholtz coils in the estimation of the magnetic moment of a short solid magnet by measurement of the external magnetic flux. The commenter notes that it is not obvious why Helmholtz coils are preferable search coils to other alternatives. He explains why the choice is only fair, and why other choices are better.<>
