Abstract
Current-access devices where the driving fields are derived from one or more patterned conducting sheets rather than orthogonal field coils have been operated at stepping rates in excess of 1 Mbit/sec. Margins of functions have been studied at 8 μm period and typically for propagation 1.4 mA/μm is required per conducting sheet with a power dissipation of 14 μW/bit. Compared to conventional field-access devices it is anticipated that current-access devices will achieve higher data rates and greater storage densities with existing processing technologies.
