Abstract
An analytical approach, based on harmonic balance techniques, is presented to study ferroresonance circuits with an arbitrary degree of nonlinearity. This approach is then employed to investigate the effect of the different circuit parameters and forcing frequency on the occurrence of ferroresonant jumps. In particular, it is shown that increasing either the forcing frequency or the capacitance makes the circuit more vulnerable to ferroresonance. This explains the frequent occurrence of ferroresonance in distribution networks during light loading periods. An example is given to illustrate the feasibility of the technique.
