Abstract
A statistical model of the recording channel using a Monte Carlo computer simulation program has been developed. All the sources which contribute to the error rate can be simultaneously examined. System error rates and error rate trends due to parameter variations, sensitivities, and trade-offs can be studied with a good degree of confidence. Several examples of studies utilized in the development of the IBM 3330 Mod. II and 3340 drives are included.
