Abstract
This article focuses on the start-up phase of large international projects, involving multinational and multi-organisational teams. The importance of the start-up phase for overall project success is stressed, and the need for an effective start-up process established. Recommendations are made based on the experience of large multinational power projects, and the principles and practice of independent facilitation in key workshops are introduced as one way to support traditional project management methods.
