A repeaterless 4×10 Gbit/s WDM transmission with remotely pumped post and preamplifiers pumped by standard semiconductor lasers over nondispersion shifted fibres is demonstrated. The overall power budget of >61 dB results in a span length of 254 km, with mostly standard singlemode fibre
