  • Abstract
    An optical single-mode directional fibre coupler was made from two lengths of fibre of approximately semicircular cross-section. These new fibres were drawn from a preform ground parallel to the core axis. The coupling factor was measured as a function of wavelength. It is shown that the coupling factor can be influenced by bending the coupler.
