Abstract :
It is argued that divestiture of the telephone monopoly was a crucial factor in the evolution of the cable industry because it changed the national mindset to consider the idea that two-way communications can be provided by entities other than the phone companies. It is shown that with present technologies, cable is well positioned to deliver broadband services, at low cost, today.<>
