Abstract :
Wire-line telecommunication facilities serving electric power stations often require special high voltage protection against the effects of fault-produced ground potential rises, induced voltages, or both. This proposed revision to IEEE Standard 487 which was originally published in 1980, presents workable methods for protecting wire-line telecommunication circuits entering power stations. This standard represents the consensus of both power and telecommunications engineers and necessary approvals have been obtained for this revised document to be upgraded to IEEE Recommended Practice. The individual standard chapters are summarized in the paper
