Abstract :
A differential phase contrast optical microscope is described showing a depth resolution of 1 Å, in a bandwidth of 10 kHz. The system, which is based on a laser interferometer, has a phase sensitivity of 10¿3 rad. With careful design, this value can be improved by an order of magnitude.
