Abstract
A superconducting rotor facility has been constructed to study the magnetic screening of superconducting AC machines. The superconducting dipolar magnet 128 mm diameter, 515 mm long, 40 Kg weight, is capable of providing a field of 1.5T at a radius of 100 mm with 525A energising current. Novel features include helical vapour-cooled current leads, anti-recirculation baffles in the vapour space, vapour dump valves and liquid nitrogen cooling.
