Abstract
The object of the paper is to provide some new experimental data to investigators interested in the study of eddy currents in solid magnetic iron. To this end, we have built solenoids and iron cylinders (billets) and we have heated the billets with 1 KHz currents. We have tried to compare experimental results with analytical studies and have been much astonished to find important difficulties for their applications and to see that they provide results which tally to experiment only at room temperature. Therefore, we have run finite element programs for comparison with experiment.
