Abstract
The most advanced of inverse motion compensation (IMC) algorithms exploit shared information in the macroblock level rather than operating on 8×8 blocks, achieving speed-ups of up to 44%. A variable complexity algorithm (VCA) is presented that jointly exploits macroblock shared information and DCT block sparseness, thus resulting in further reductions of up to 6% on the average in the number of operations required.
