  • Abstract
Perpendicular magnetic recording is studied now by various laboratories, in order to improve the linear recording density. The purpose of this paper is to present a new type of magnetic head made of thin films adapted to perpendicular recording. A multi-layers recording medium has been suggested to optimize the interaction between the head and the medium. It is shown that a high field gradient is obtained under the main magnetic pole of the head. This reduces the peak-shift for very high recording densities.
