Abstract :
A method for simulation of permanent magnet effects on the magnetic field in electrical machines is given. The method is suited for use with magnetic vector potential numerical models for the analysis of magnetic fields in electrical machines containing permanent magnets. The method was applied to the solution of magnetic fields under no load and load in two 15HP, 120 volt ferrite and samarium cobalt permanent magnet type brushless dc machines using finite elements. Search coil measurements of both flux and flux densities in the two machines were used to verify the present permanent magnet model. The numerical analysis and measurement results of the flux densities were in excellent agreement.
