Abstract
A method of finding the optimum sidelobe-minimizing weights for an arbitrary linear array is derived that holds for any scan direction, beamwidth, and type of antenna element used. Optimum linear array positions are then determined via the particle swarm optimization method. Hence, the two together can give a global bound on antenna array performance with regards to sidelobe minimization. Results are presented for linear arrays of 2-6 elements for different scan angles, beamwidths and antenna elements.
