Abstract :
A standard approach for modeling multiterminal transformers having an iron core uses self and mutual inductances between the windings. This suffers in accuracy because of the large values of these quantities which, theoretically, could approach infinity in the presence of an iron core. Multiterminal transformers can also be modeled using the easily obtainable two-winding leakage inductances, provided the iron core is treated as ideal or included via additional circuit elements. For power frequency applications, this latter approach is very convenient for obtaining characteristics such as regulation effects and phase shifts in the presence of balanced loads. Single winding resistances are also included in the model.
