Abstract
The application of finite elements to the open region associated with scattering problems necessarily requires the truncation of the solution region. This work investigates the use of infinite elements to extend the solution region beyond that of the finite elements which can be truncated by a noncircular boundary. A finite/infinite element formulated is developed in two dimensions and tested on dielectric, magnetic, and conducting scatterers with known analytic solutions
