Abstract :
AC-3 is the perceptual coding technology used for HDTV audio compression. This paper describes the design and implementation of AC-3 coders, focusing on issues relevant to minimum cost solutions. AC-3 coding technology has been adopted by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) as the audio service standard for high definition television (HDTV) in the United States. The AC-3 audio data compression system is described, and an overview of encoding and decoding strategies is presented
