Abstract
We investigate the magnetic and (MO) magneto-optic properties of single crystals of YIG:Ga quenched at different temperatures Tq. At low temperature and for a given Tq, the variations of z in Y3 Fe5-z Gaz O12 seem to have no important effect on the values of the spontaneous Faraday rotation
. The substitution of Ga on the (d) site affects mainly the MO coefficient of the [a] site due to electric dipole transitions in agreement with the model proposed by Dionne.
