Abstract
The self-focussing of sound beams related with the special type of acoustic dispersion in some antiferromagnets possesing a "soft" magnetic mode is theoretically examined. The considerable acoustic nonlinearity of antiferromagnets is expected to facilitate the experimental observation of the self-focussing effect. Ultrasound (
MHz) strains as small as
are sufficient for experiment with α-Fe2 O3 or TmFeO3 .
