Study of the Etiology of Epilepsy in the patients who were Reffered to Gheam Hospital

Material and Method: this is a descriptive study about the etiology of 310 epileptic patients who were refered to Ghaern Hospital. Results: Most of them were between 10-18 and F/M ratio was 1.3. 58.7% have patients had idiopathic and cryptogenic epilepsy and 41.3% had symptomatic epilepsy. The serial, prevalence of etiology is in follow: idiopathic and cryptogenic 58.7%, posttraumatic 13.5%, cerebral vasculas disorder 0.6%, tumor 5.8%, infection disease 3.9%, hereditary metabolicʹ disease 3.9%, vascular malformation 2.6%, neurocutaneus disorders 1.3%, degenerative disorders 1.3%, perinatal insult 1.3% and collagen vasculas disorders 0.6%. Average age of patients who had idiopathic epilepsy was 19.4 and for symptomatic was 31.9. Discussion: regarding high incidence of posttraumatic epilepsy, more study in etiology of accidents and ear collisions with head trauma are suggestive.
