Word Equivalence in Translation of Religious Texts: Challenges and Strategies

This paper deals mainly with word equivalence in translation of religious texts, its challenges and strategies. It starts with a few definitions of what translation is and then recounts the main components of translation equivalence including word equivalence. Then, the constituents and challenges of word equivalence are elaborated. This research demonstrates the complications that the translator of religious texts faces due to the cultural specifities and differences between the source and target languages. Finally this paper compares and analyzes strategies suggested by well-known translation scholars and eventually synthesizes its own new strategies.
