Political systems include two dimensions: political structure and political culture. Political culture is a four dimensional phenomenon which includes beliefs, values, knowledge and sentiments. Based on these four dimensions, we can define different types of political culture. political culture is the frame that forms political behavior. Theorists and researchers have proposed different types of political culture; for example, types of political culture, defined by Gabriel Almond (parochial, subject, participant), Walter A. Rosenbaum (civic, non-religious, ideological), Daniel Elazar (individualistic, moralistic, traditionalistic), Mahmood Sariolghalam (tribal), Samih Farsoun and Mehrdad Mashayekhi (Islamic, liberal and socialist). The aim of this paper is to determine some key variables for defining types of political culture within the society of Iranian students. The researcher also intends to determine factors afferting these types of political culture. This article is a summary of final report of a doctoral dissertation entitled "Typology and Explanation of the Political Culture of Iranian students". Within the framework of the original research, the researcher intended to answer the following two main questions: 1) What are the types of political cultures 2) and What are the factors influencing them? This article attempts to provide an answer to the first question. It is claimed that the students can he classified into three types of political culture: backward participation seekers, medians and forward participants.
