The Role of Consumption Pattern in Production-Based Economy

According to conventional economics, consumption and production in macro level have interdependence through save and investment and also demand for the goods produced. Historical trend in industrial countries shows that these countries in very beginning of development procedure, considered great importance for production power and regulated consumption demands accordingly. In contrast with these countries, developing countries like Iran and Turkey, relied on imports and adopted exogenous consumption patterns. In the other word these countries did not pay attention to internal production and supply their needs by foreign products. Applying descriptive-analytic method, this article uses census of changes in consumption trend of the country in past years to show the main influential factors in consumption of foreign products. According to the article these factors are: increasing international interactions, increasing oil revenues share in GNP and in the governmentʹs incomes, growing of liquidity, imbalances in distribution of wealth and power in the country, commercial and foreign exchange policies of the country. The authors believe these elements specially relying on oil revenues and ignoring domestic production have changed the consumption pattern in our country.
