Foregrounding through Repetition of One Word in Saʹdiʹs Bustan

In most of the studies done on Saʹdiʹs works, the emphasis is put on the significance of language; but just a few of them specifically deal with its linguistic features. Analysis of different aspects of his language can be considered as a positive step towards determining his individual style. The present paper intends to study one of the stylistic features of Saʹdiʹs language, i.e. foregrounding through repetition of one word, in his Bustan, by analyzing the whole work and emphasizing the significance of repetition in the text. The repeated words are studied in one or more couplets. The results show that more than one of fourth of the couplets in Bustan contains the feature of repetition. This feature is studied from different aspects: I) foregrounding through syntactic syntagmatization, 2) foregrounding through syntactic substitution, 3) foregrounding through replacement, 4) foregro­unding through various structures of word. The results show that the high frequency of this feature contributes to individual style of Saʹdi.
