Investigation the effect of interlayer thickness on toughness variation versus thickness in Ti-6A1-4V alloy

Special importance of Ti 6A1-4V alloy is due to the applications in aerospace and medical fields. As a result of this, vast investigations have been done in fracture strength and toughness fields. In this study, the effect of interlayer thickness on toughness variation versus thickness in Ti-6A1-4V alloy less than 1 millimeter is evaluated for three lamellar microstructures which are aged in different temperatures. Results showed that interlayer thickness variation doesnʹt change the rate of toughness differences versus thickness or diffusion plasticity considerably but it shifts the toughness value. On the other hand, interlayer thickness differences cause to variation in essential work of fracture. Also, fracture cross section and fracture micro mechanism is investigated by the use of scanning electron microscopy, image analysis, and metallographic images and finally a model is offered for this fracture structure.
