    The trasnsport phenomena of three-species gases of oxygen, water vapor and nitrogen in the cathode side of a Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) of PEM fuel cell is studies using two numerical methods of the GDQ and the finite difference. The variations of pressure, velocity and concentrations of the species are studied and the regions with the potential of condensations are monitored, and the performance of the two numerical methods are investigated. The model is an isothermal model, in which the governing equations in the GDL in a one-dimensional case are solved using the GDQ and finite difference method. In the GDQ method, the grid independency is achived with a much coarser grids, and much lower computation time. For example, the computation time for one test case using the finite difference method required 57 seconds, while the GDQ could do the same problem in a 0.21 sec. The difference in the computation time significantly increases by increasing the number of grids. The application of the GDQ method can be generalized to two- and three-dimensional cases with a more realistic physics of the problem under study.
