The importance of design management in product design is rapidly increasing while there is no particular management pattern to implement for all products. Therefore, it is very necessary to identify different aspects of design management and planning in order to adopt an effective functional procedure for choosing design process and all stages that a product should pass to reach the consumer. In this paper, the following assumptions are discussed:
1) Design management gives an organization the possibility of certain decision-makings related to design in a customer-oriented and market-oriented basis.
2) Design-related processes are optimized by design management.
This paper also studies a successful case by reviewing design management, history of its development, its role in product design and effective factors of design management. At the end, certain points are discussed as the conclusion:
Whatever the product, design management should have an active and continuous presence in the process of design and production as an integral and essential part, while creating a suitable connection and coordination among different sections of research, design and production. It should also try to increase the quality and durability of the product according to the consumerʹs needs, efforts in meeting these needs in the best practice as well as careful assessment of market and similar products. Moreover, design management must focus on reducing productʹs costs, facilitating and accelerating product process and finally making use of available capabilities of the organization for creating a newer product.
