This article considers and evaluates Jeffrey Alexanderʹs theories in the areas of sociological theory. Jeffrey Alexander works in the areas of theory, culture, and politics. This article traces developments in Alexanderʹs thought. We pursue three aims in this article: 1) Introduce the key components of Post positivist theory and the scientific continuum and components. This article indicates that the core of Alexanderʹs thoughts is multidimensionality of the social world. 2) A sketch of the key ideas of his approach to neofunctionalism and change analysis. In Alexanderʹs eye, the idea of systems having needs and requisites cannot fully explain social processes that operate within these systems. 3) An exponent of the "strong program" in cultural sociology. The constitutive elements of Alexanderʹs strong program are: (a) a ʹthick descriptionʹ; (b) a theory of culture which has autonomy built into the fabric of meaning, as well as a more robust understanding of social structure and institutional dynamics; and (c) constructing a general theory of culture.
