Measurement and Evaluation of the Registration in Fabric Digital Printing

In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in research on ink-jet printing of textiles. Ink-Jet Printing technique, comparing the conventional methods, offers many benefits such as having a non-contact printing head, fast design, swift pattern changing, quick edit, unlimited repeat size, competitive quality and so on. In this study, the possibility of using an office paper printer as a fabric printer is investigated. The effect of ironing on the wicking property of fabric is considered. The relation between weft density and the registration of printed pattern is also studied. For this purpose, a series of geometric patterns was designed. The patterns were printed on plain papers and fabric samples by the selected ink-jet printer. The digital images of the printed samples were taken. An appropriate computer program in "MATLAB", based on "Normalized Cross Correlation" (NCC) algorithm, was developed and the level of coincidence of geometric shapes on the printed samples was measured. The acquired results show that the NCC index is more than 90 percent, which demonstrates a good accordance.
