Preparation of metallic glazes for Monoproza wall tiles

In this study the preparation of self reduction metallic glazes for application in fast firing wall tile was investigated. For this purpose a lead borate frit was used. First, the effect of some oxides such as SnO2, CuO, Fe2O3 and MnO2 on metallic shining of metallic glaze was investigated. For this glazes effect of the amount of metal oxide on metallic shining was the basis for choosing of the best one. By this criteria the sample which had a good light reflectance was chosen. The result of SEM revealed that selected sample in the aforementioned criteria had surface crystallization and as a result surface roughness in sub micron range. The results of X-Ray diffraction patterns confirm this result. XRD patterns, showed the formation of metallic Cu particles and Cu-Sn alloy on the surface of sample fired at 1050 °C and 1120 °C while in the sample fired at 1180 °C these phases disappeared and metallic Fe detected.
