Al-Mg alloys have been used as matrix of composites because of their high strength/weight ratio and good corrosion resistance. On the other hand reinforcing of metallic matrix of composite with hard particles leads to improvement of physical and mechanical properties of composite. In present research the morphology and microstructure of nanostructure Al-Mg/A1203 composite reinforced with 10 and 15 wt% alumina produced by mechanical alloying in a high energy ball mill was investigated for different milling times to 15 h. SEM and XRD techniques was used for variations of morphology and microstructure. The crystallite size and lattice strain were estimated using the Williamson-Hall method. SEM micrographs show that increasing of A1203 contact from 10 to 15 wt% after 15 h milling lead to formation of a symmetric morphology with uniform fine particles. The results of XRD show formation of Al(Mg) solid solution as matrix for composite with increase of milling time. Decreasing of crystallite size and increasing of lattice strain of composite was observed with increasing milling time and increasing of alumina contact from 10 to 15 wt%.
