THE IMPORTANT RESEARCH INDICES IN IRAN AND OTHER COUNTRIES

Indices are designed to evaluate the economic and social aspects of some variable that are influential in analyses and decision-makings. Currently, with regard to the role of research in economic, social and cultural development, research indices are very significant for their determining role in understanding the research status, its trend of change, and affecting factors. In the present paper, after reviewing past research and developments in Iran, the countryʹs research situation is evaluated as a systematic body of objectives, policies, and decision-makings. Furthermore, the trend of main research indices e.g., investments and expenditures on "Research & Development", the share of research funds from the GNP, the ratio of researchers to the whole population, in Iran as well as other countries have been analyzed.
