The Standard of the Taste and the Taste Disagreements in Humeʹʹs Thoughts

از آنجايي كه هيوم زيبايي را احساسي لذت‌بخش مي‌داند كه از برخي كيفيات عينيِ محتمل ايجاد مي‌شود، براي رفع اختلافات ذوقي نمي‌تواند به كيفيت عينيِ مشخصي اشاره كند. از همين رو او حكم مشترك داوران راستين را به عنوان معيار ذوق مطرح مي‌كند. خود هيوم مي‌پذيرد كه علي‌رغم كارايي اين معيار، هنوز دو عاملِ مزاج شخص و آداب و رسوم افراد نوعي نسبي‌گرايي محدود را در داوري‌هاي ذوقي موجب مي‌شود. بررسي دقيق‌تر نشان مي‌دهد كه اين معيار تنها در داوري‌هاي ساده و غير مقايسه‌اي مي‌تواند مفيد واقع شود. اما در داوري‌هاي مقايسه‌اي، آنجايي كه صحبت از برتري هنرمندي بر هنرمند ديگر است، اين معيار نمي‌تواند چندان موثر و كارا باشد. اگر زيبايي احساس لذت‌بخش است، هر شخصي احساس خود را معتبر مي‌داند و حاضر نيست احساس ديگري را جايگزين آن كند.

Since Hume believes that beauty is pleasurable sentiment, he can not refer to the certain objective qualities for resolving aesthetical disputes. Hence, he introduces the common judgment of judges as the standard of the taste. Hume himself accept that in spite of efficiency of this standard, tow factors, namely different humors and different particular manners, lead to a kind of constricted relativism in the aesthetic judgment. A precise investigation will show that this standard can be successful in the simple and none-comparative situations. However, in the case of comparative judgments - when we speak about preferences of an artist in comparison to the otherʹs ones - this standard can not be efficacious. If beauty is pleasurable sentiment, everybody accredit his sentiment and would not accept otherʹs sentiment.
