اصلاحات سياسي، اقتصادي و اجتماعي گسترده جمال عبدالناصر در مصر كه در زمان انورسادات و مبارك نيز پيگيري شد، خصوصاً در زمينه بهداشت و درمان و توسعه آموزش همگاني، باعث افزايش جمعيت جوان و رشد قشر تحصيلكرده دانشگاهي و طبقه متوسط جديد در اين كشور شد. از اين رو پژوهش حاضر در پي پاسخ گويي به اين سوال است كه طبقه متوسط جديد چه نقشي در انقلاب 2011 مصر داشته است؟ فرض اين پژوهش بر آن است كه طبقه متوسط جديد نقش هادي، مدير و ايدئولوگ را در انقلاب 2011 مصر داشته است.  اين طبقه كه مهمترين خواست آن مشاركت سياسي است، در مقابل ساختار سياسي بسته مصر كه توان پاسخگويي به اين خواست را نداشت، تبديل به يك نيروي انقلابي شده و در نهايت با همكاري توده هاي مردم باعث سقوط حكومت مبارك شدند. علاوه براين، وضعيت اقتصادي نه چندان مطلوب مصر در زمان انقلاب، نرخ بالاي بيكاري در بين طبقه متوسط جديد به گونه اي كه حدود يك ميليون نفر يعني نيمي از جمعيت بيكار مصر متعلق به گروه سني 20-24 سال بود، فساد روز افزون طبقه حاكمه، ايجاد وضعيت«برآمدگي جمعيت»، شمار فراوان جمعيت زير خط فقر، افزايش جهاني قيمت مواد غذايي و وابستگي مصر به واردات مواد غذايي و وضعيت نامناسب توسعه انساني در اين كشور، مجموعاً باعث ايجاد نوعي نارضايتي عمومي در مصر شده كه در نهايت منجر به انقلاب 2011 شد؛ انقلابي كه رهبري آن در دست طبقه متوسط جديد بود.
