The effect of manganese on plasma and liver lipoprotein levels and lipoprotein lipase activity in rat

The importance ofʹ manganese in normal metabolism and its effect on lipid metabolism is a matter of widespread investigation in recent years. In this study, changes of plasma levels of lipoproteins and lipoprotein lipase activity as well as Iiver contents of different lipids were investigated following manganese administration in rats. The experiments were carried out using two acute and chronic doses. In chronic group, manganese as MnCI2, with a dose of 2mg/kg was injected (I.P) for 30 days, and in acute group manganese was injected with a dose of 15 mg/kg for 2 days. In the acute group, after the administration of manganese, plasma level of the total cholesterol, LDI.-C and liver phospholipids increased, but lipoprotein lipase activity decreased. Plasma TC and VLDL-C did not change. At the end of chronic injection period, plasma levels of total cholesterol, TO, HD1,-C, VLDL-C, liver phospholipids and liver TG were increased, but I ,Dl.-C and plasma LPL activity were decreased.
